VOLUNTEERS

TO SERVE AS A REGISTERED ADULT LEADER IN THE SCOUTING AMERICA, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. COMPLETE THE APPLICATION

Complete a BSA Adult Volunteer Application and give approval for a background check. 

2. YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING

Go to www.my.scouting.org and take Youth Protection Training. Once you have completed the training, please print out the certificate and attach it to your application. You are required to complete this training every two years. 

Youth Protection training is designed to help you keep our youth safe from abuse. You will learn the Scouting America’s Youth Protection Guidelines, signs of abuse, and how to report suspected abuse. After each section of material, you will answer questions about that section’s topic. Completion is noted automatically in the BSA training records database if the module is experienced online. Please print a copy and attach it to the BSA Adult Volunteer Application when you hand it in.  


3. SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE MANDATORY PA CLEARANCES

    If you have lived in Pennsylvania for more than 10 years you must complete a Resident Volunteer Verification Form (PDF).

FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK

The previous FBI fingerprint-based background check vendor, Cogent, will no longer be providing the FBI fingerprinting online services for the PA state clearance requirements. Volunteers needing to obtain the FBI fingerprint-based background check should begin the process by visiting Idemia’s website and then follow the steps below.
